The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that Dungeon Master, the landmark 1987 first-person dungeon crawler by FTL Games, is ready for public testing!

As the spirit of Theron, the Grey Lord's apprentice, resurrect up to four champions from the mirrors in the Hall of Champions and guide them through the dungeon in real time to recover the Firestaff and defeat Lord Chaos.

Released in 1987, Dungeon Master was FTL Games' breakthrough title and one of the most influential releases of its decade, credited with defining the first-person dungeon-crawler genre and inspiring a generation of imitators across home computer platforms.

Dungeon Master broke new ground with real-time combat and an innovative rune-based spell-casting system, letting players combine runes to craft their own spells — features that set it apart from the turn-based crawlers that came before it.

For this testing period, ScummVM supports the Amiga release (version 2.0, English) and the DOS release (version 3.4, USA edition, English) of Dungeon Master.

To join the test, grab a recent daily development build, add your game directory to ScummVM, and play through the dungeon. Please report any problems you encounter on our issue tracker.

The Grey Lord needs you! Resurrect four champions from their mirrors, brave the depths of the dungeon, seize the firestaff, and bring Lord Chaos to his knees — or abandon it all and walk away. The choice is yours. Are you ready to descend?

Avalanche screenshot

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that Lord Avalot d'Argent, the quirky 1994 comedic adventure by Thorsoft of Letchworth, is ready for public testing!

The year is 1179. When Baron Michel de Lustie is denied the princess's hand in marriage, he kidnaps her for a steep 50-pence ransom. With England’s finest knight conveniently away on vacation, the desperate king turns to you: the reluctant and decidedly less-than-heroic Lord Avalot d'Argent. It is up to you to set off across Britain, solve odd puzzles, outwit strange characters, and somehow bring the princess back.

Inspired by early Sierra classics like King's Quest, the game blends animated graphical exploration with a traditional text parser and convenient mouse menus.

For this testing period, ScummVM supports the original DOS release, powered by the Avalanche engine.

To join the test, grab a recent daily development build, add your game directory to ScummVM, and set out on the quest. Please report any problems you encounter on our issue tracker.

England's champion is on holiday, the princess has been kidnapped, and Avalot has somehow been chosen for the job. Are you ready to put his competence to the test?

Harvester screenshot

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that Harvester is ready for public testing!

You wake up in the small Texas farming town of Harvest. Who are you? How did you get here? Why does it seem to be the 1950s? What’s the Order of the Harvest Moon?

Harvester is an adventure/horror game, full of quirky characters, campy FMV cutscenes, B-list acting, real-time combat sequences and all the pixel-hunting goodness the genre is known for. Engage with the citizens of Harvest and uncover the town’s secrets as you attempt to gain access to the Lodge to uncover the truth.

For this testing period, ScummVM supports the English, French and European versions. Once you’ve obtained a supported version, see the wiki for guidance on extracting the necessary data files.

Harvester depicts scenes of graphic violence, sex and gore, and may not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re not put off by this and want to help us test the games, start by grabbing a daily build and get playing! Don’t forget to read through our testing guidelines, and please take some screenshots along the way.

The Fool's Errand screenshot

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that The Fool's Errand is ready for public testing!

The Fool's Errand is a critically-acclaimed narrative puzzle game based on characters and arcana from the tarot. Help the Fool as he uncovers the lost fourteen treasures of the world, averts all-out war between the four kingdoms, and defies the wrath of the evil High Priestess. Each puzzle solved reveals a new piece of the story, and builds to an overarching metapuzzle that ties all of the threads together.

For this testing period, ScummVM supports the original Macintosh edition of the game - the ports for DOS, Amiga and Atari use a different engine and are not covered by this announcement. All known versions of the Macintosh edition should be supported and completable. But there's an old saying that a reverse engineer who hires themselves as a beta tester has a fool for a client, so don't take our word for it!

Help us test the games by grabbing a daily build. Read through our testing guidelines. And please take some screenshots along the way. The wiki page for the game explains which files are needed and how to extract them.

If you encounter any unexpected treachery, such as game-breaking bugs or a revision of the game which does not open in ScummVM, please report it on our issue tracker following our bug submission guidelines.

The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce that Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy, The Cameron Files: The Secret at Loch Ness, and The Messenger / Louvre: The Final Curse are ready for public testing!

In Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy, an old explorer’s final wish sends a young journalist to a hidden land with some precious cargo: the stolen egg of the legendary White Birds. Sail, drive, and puzzle your way through Benoît Sokal’s world of strange wildlife, rusting machinery, and forgotten history.

Loch Ness takes private investigator Alan P. Cameron to the Scottish Highlands, where ghostly apparitions trouble Devil’s Ridge Manor—and his client has vanished. Search for clues, uncover a secret laboratory, and keep an eye on the loch. Some mysteries lurk beneath the surface.

In The Messenger/ Louvre: The Final Curse, agent Morgane Sinclair must recover four dangerous artefacts before the Black Templars can unleash their power. Travel through different eras of the Louvre’s history, mixing modern gadgets with ancient magic. This museum visit comes with considerably more at stake than the admission fee.

All three games run on the PhoenixVR engine, also used by Dracula: Resurrection and Dracula 2: The Last Sanctuary.

Please note that only the Windows versions of these games are supported. The Macintosh and PSX versions use a different engine.

To join the testing, grab a recent daily development build and your original game data files. Report any bugs on our issue tracker, including your ScummVM version, game edition and language, and steps to reproduce the problem.

Mind the egg, watch the water, and try not to end the world. Happy testing!
